Leading Edge Geomatics provides aerial survey and geomatics services across North America. Headquartered in New Brunswick, Canada, with experienced staff and advanced equipment, Leading Edge works with each client to achieve the optimum solution for each project.

With a fleet of seven aircraft and  eleven digital sensors , Leading Edge offers customized solutions to clients across a number of industries including energy, forestry, mining, and bathymetry. The principals of Leading Edge have a combined 40 years of practice in the geomatics industry, and have worked on projects throughout North America, and internationally in Afghanistan, conducting national level survey projects. To date, LEG has flown over 500,000 km² of LiDAR, and more than 300,000 km² of aerial photography.

Bruce Hogan

Bruce Hogan is Chief Executive Officer and Director of Sales at Leading Edge Geomatics. Bruce worked as a Geomatics Technician with the Department of National Defence before becoming Geomatics Manager of the Atlantic region in 2002. In 2006, Bruce began his sales career working for Applanix Corporation as the account manager of Government and Military.

Having delivered keynote addresses and presentations to various military organizations across Canada and internationally in the United States, Netherlands, Italy, Hungary, Romania, and Australia, Bruce has presented to organizations including the FBI and Homeland Security. Bruce brings a strong geomatics background and a keen interest in worldwide sales. As CEO and Director of Sales at Leading Edge, Bruce oversees all marketing, sales, and account management efforts, ensuring clients are satisfied with their LEG products and services.

 

 

Vladimir Kadatskiy

Vladimir Kadatskiy joined LEG as Vice President Corporate Development in early 2019. Over the course of his career, Vladimir has held multiple management positions in different fields, and is considered one of the foremost experts in remote sensing technologies. For over a decade, Vladimir worked at a leading LiDAR manufacturer, where he managed sales, business development, support, and product improvement. He has worked, developed, and promoted Terrestrial, Mobile, Unmanned, Airborne, and Bathymetric LiDAR market segments worldwide. Vladimir’s strong technical expertise and business competence is essential to ensure LEG’s continuous growth.

Bill Kidman

Bill Kidman — Co-founder

Bill Kidman is a co-founder of Leading Edge Geomatics (LEG). Under Bill’s direction, Leading Edge has seen tremendous growth since establishment in 2008. Exceedingly passionate about geomatics and all things related, Bill has years of mapping and technical experience.

After graduating from the Canadian Forces School of Military Mapping in 2003, Bill began his career in mapping with the Department of National Defence. Upon retirement in 2008, Bill took on the position of President and Chief Technical Officer of Leading Edge Geomatics.

Bill’s extensive mapping background includes missions around the world including Kandahar, Afghanistan, with the US Naval Research Laboratory Marine Geophysics Branch, to assist in a multi-sensor, high-altitude, geophysical survey of Afghanistan.

Bill enjoys being involved in all research and development as well as collaborating with industry professionals to discover new applications for Leading Edge Geomatics’ products and services in various industries.

Will Lowry

Will Lowry is a co-founder of Leading Edge Geomatics. A graduate of the Canadian Forces School of Military Mapping, Will served his career on the operational side of the Mapping and Charting Establishment. After his 2008 retirement from the Canadian Forces, Will became the Director of Operations and IT Management at Leading Edge.

During his service, Will spent two years as the Commander of a Geomatics Support Team, including an operational tour as the Commander of the All Source Intelligence Center Geomatics Support Team in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

Yong Kwon

Yong Kwon has been involved in advising technology, media, telecom and other growth companies on capital raising and strategic initiatives since 2001. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree and an MBA from the University of Toronto.

Prior to joining Novacap in 2014, Mr. Kwon spent 13 years in investment banking with RBC Capital Markets and Barclays in Toronto, where he was responsible for the origination and execution of M&A advisory, equity and debt financing transactions, primarily in technology and other growth sectors.

Mr. Kwon is the Chairman of the Board of Directors at Leading Edge Geomatics and Firmex.

Francois Laflamme

François Laflamme has been involved in the technology sector as an entrepreneur, technology innovator, and private equity investor. He holds an Electrical Engineering Degree from École Polytechnique of Montreal, and an MBA in Finance from HEC Montreal. Mr. Laflamme also completed the Entrepreneurship Development Program at MIT.

Mr. Laflamme has over 25 years of experience in managing technology companies. He was President and CEO of LiquidxStream Systems, a telecom equipment company in the Novacap portfolio. He was also a Partner at IUGO Ventures, a venture-capital fund specialized in the TMT industry, where he led several investments in technology companies based in Canada and the US. In addition, he was Vice-President of IP Telephony at Videotron, where he pioneered the introduction of the local telephony service using next generation VoIP infrastructure. Mr. Laflamme joined Novacap in 2012.

Mr. Laflamme is  a  Board member of  Leading Edge Geomatics, Dialogic, and Réseau Capital.  He is Chairman of the Board of Intelerad Medical Systems.

Kristian Valenta

Kristian Valenta is an Associate at Novacap. Prior to joining the firm in 2014, Mr. Valenta was a Senior Analyst at KPMG Corporate Finance in Montreal where he was involved on a number of mergers & acquisitions and corporate finance advisory transactions in various industries including TMT, healthcare, and education. Prior to that, Mr. Valenta worked as an Analyst for TMX/CDS. Mr. Valenta holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree, majoring in Honors Finance from Concordia University’s John Molson School of Business.

Mr. Valenta is currently a member of the Board of Directors of Leading Edge Geomatics, Syntax Systems and Nitrex Metal Inc., and serves as an observer on the Board of Directors of Octasic and Dialogic, and has previously served on the Board of Directors of Chemical Computing Group and Firmex.

Opportunities

 Sensor Operator

We are currently accepting applications for Sensor Operators to join our team . The overall goal of this position is to significantly contribute to the ongoing success of LEG by conducting efficient aerial surveys that provide highly accurate and high-quality data to meet all specifications designated by the client. Reporting to LEG’s Operations Department, this is a part-time leading full-time position. During peak season this position requires significant overtime as well as overnight travel for up to five consecutive weeks.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Operating remote sensing equipment from aircraft:
• Effectively monitoring sensor parameters through mission software and ensuring project specifications are met
• Ensuring sensors are prepared and working before each mission
• Familiarization with sensors and associated hardware in order to better understand and efficiently troubleshoot errors
• Familiarization with the project areas to be surveyed
• Maintaining comprehensive, detailed and accurate field notes
• Accurately inputting data into databases
• Ensuring data and results of the highest accuracy, integrity and quality are consistently delivered to clients

Essential Qualifications:

• Successful completion of Grade 12
• Must be in good physical condition:
• Ability to lift and move gear weighing up to 40 pounds
• Ability to tolerate exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, heat, cold, noise and vibration, extreme cold, heat, and all types of weather conditions
• Ability to sit for prolonged periods in confined spaces
• Valid driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract
• Strong attention to detail
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Junior Remote Sensing Analyst

As a result of our expanding product offerings, we are seeking a Junior Remote Sensing and LiDAR  Analyst to join our positioning and production team.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

•Assist in the efficient cataloguing, organizing and storage all current survey data
•Process trajectories of the highest levels of accuracy and integrity to meet project specifications
•Provide assistance to the survey section in high survey season as needed
•Assist with flight planning as needed
•Provide Production Team with well-organized and standard format data sets
•Making process improvement suggestions and contributing to best practice documents
•Regularly researching new remote sensing and GIS/GPS technologies and service providers

Essential Qualifications:

Successful completion of a post-secondary degree program remote sensing and/or GIS. Strong computer skills and a valid driver’s license are also required. Experience with trajectory processing is considered an asset.

Aircraft Maintenance Engineer- M1

At Leading Edge Enterprises (LEE), our mission is to provide superior service and solutions to our valued clients. While we do not have any immediate openings, we are always accepting applications from knowledgeable, hard-working, trustworthy individuals to take an active role in our day to day maintenance activities on Cessna 172R/S, T206H and Piper PA31 aircraft.

The LEE Maintenance team is headquartered in Lincoln, New Brunswick, and works on project sites across North America. The overall goal of this position is to significantly contribute to the ongoing success of LEE by assisting in maintenance and repairs on the fleet of fixed-wing aircraft. Reporting to LEE’s PRM, this position is permanent full-time, on-call, weekend, evenings, and willing to work away from base as needed. This position requires significant overtime as well as frequent/extended overnight travel. Benefits package available, wage to commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Assisting with the general maintenance and servicing of hangar equipment and facilities
• Maintaining an organized, clean and safe hangar environment
• Maintain detailed and accurate logbooks, worksheets, etc., update apprenticeship logbook as specified tasks are completed
• Participate in training courses and professional development as required
• Shall comply with all relevant safety policies and procedures; responsible for reporting any hazards, incidences, accidents, near misses, errors, non-conformances, suspected unapproved parts, etc. to the PRM or QA Manager;
•Responsible for cooperating, with QA auditors and safety auditors during any QA/Safety; inspections, audits or assessments
• Shall comply with all policies contained in company MPM and complete other duties as assigned by the Person Responsible for Maintenance.

Essential Qualifications:
• Canadian AME-M1 license
• Experience working with aircraft types listed above
• Experience working with sheet metal / structures
• Must be competent and efficient at working individually and as part of a team
• Must have reliable transportation
• Valid driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract
• Valid passport and a clean criminal back ground check, ability to travel throughout Canada and USA
