Charles W. Miller
Charles Miller is President & CEO at Leading Edge Geomatics. An accomplished executive, Charles brings 20+ years of experience in senior management across several industries, specializing in shifting organizations into high gear while building best-in-class operations. Charles’ past work has earned notable accolades including Top 100 Fastest Growing Companies in Canada, and Entrepreneur of the Year Award Nominee. Charles attributes his success to balancing entrepreneurship with corporate savvy, and a focus on gaining a complete knowledge of industry and company operations. Charles engages with all aspects of LEG, making measured decisions to accelerate and improve performance across all departments.
Brian Shride is the Sales Director at Leading Edge Geomatics. A skilled and collaborative business development executive, Brian brings over 20 years of business development leadership and success from global engineering and data acquisition firms providing spatial visualization and analytics solutions to public sector, energy, transportation, aeronautics, and natural resources customers. Brian’s experience selling complex solutions and developing strategic partnerships extends across large systems integrators, and professional services companies, federal, state, and local governments, utilities, transportation, and emergency management entities. He will be expanding and accelerating the sales organizations driving LEG services content across North America. Brian holds BSc in Mechanical Engineering and BBA degrees from University of Houston.
Bruce Hogan sits on the board at Leading Edge Geomatics. Bruce worked as a Geomatics Technician with the Department of National Defence before becoming Geomatics Manager of the Atlantic region in 2002. In 2006, Bruce began his sales career working for Applanix Corporation as the account manager of Government and Military, and eventually served as CEO and Director of Sales at Leading Edge, before transitioning to a Board Member in 2019.
Having delivered keynote addresses and presentations to various military organizations across Canada and internationally in the United States, Netherlands, Italy, Hungary, Romania, and Australia, Bruce has presented to organizations including the FBI and Homeland Security. Bruce brings a strong geomatics background and a keen interest in worldwide sales.
Prior to joining Novacap, Mr. Valenta was a Senior Analyst at KPMG Corporate Finance in Montreal where he was involved on a number of mergers & acquisitions and corporate finance advisory transactions in various industries including TMT, healthcare, and education. Prior to that, Mr. Valenta worked as an Analyst for TMX/CDS and interned for Novacap in 2011. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Honours Finance from Concordia University’s John Molson School of Business.
Mr. Valenta currently sits on the Boards of Directors for Leading Edge Geomatics, Nitrex Metal and Syntax Systems, and serves as an observer on the Board of Directors of Chemical Computing Group, Dialogic, Firmex and Octasic.
François Laflamme has been involved in the technology sector as an entrepreneur, technology innovator, and private equity investor. He holds an Electrical Engineering Degree from École Polytechnique of Montreal, and an MBA in Finance from HEC Montreal. Mr. Laflamme also completed the Entrepreneurship Development Program at MIT.
Mr. Laflamme has over 25 years of experience in managing technology companies. He was President and CEO of LiquidxStream Systems, a telecom equipment company in the Novacap portfolio. He was also a Partner at IUGO Ventures, a venture-capital fund specialized in the TMT industry, where he led several investments in technology companies based in Canada and the US. In addition, he was Vice-President of IP Telephony at Videotron, where he pioneered the introduction of the local telephony service using next generation VoIP infrastructure. Mr. Laflamme joined Novacap in 2012.
Mr. Laflamme is a Board member of Dialogic, and Réseau Capital. He is Chairman of the Board of Leading Edge Geomatics and Intelerad Medical Systems.
At Leading Edge Geomatics (LEG), our mission is to provide next generation service and technology solutions in the geomatics industry. LEG has grown to be one of the top providers of digital aerial photography and LiDAR throughout Canada and the United States. We are currently seeking a Lead Photogrammetrist to join our team. The Lead Photogrammetrist will lead a small team of photogrammetrists and technicians while also adding experience in GIS and Remote Sensing to our Geospatial Processing & Solutions (GPS) team. Reporting to LEG’s GPS Manager, this is a full-time, permanent position. This is a remote position, to be based in the United States.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Assist GPS Manager in providing GIS and Remote Sensing support to the GPS department
- Coordinate timely completion of multiple projects simultaneously and provide accurate reporting to the GPS Manager, complete monthly objectives as set out by GPS Manager
- Regularly conduct quality checks of the employee’s work, provide coaching and training as needed, and actively share knowledge with team
- Work with the GPS Manager and other departments to clearly identify client requirements
- Process images using image development software as required
- Assess the quality, coverage and suitability of images for project requirements
- Ensure Analysts have correct sensor parameters and information to create a comprehensive aerial triangulation project
- Work with LiDAR data to support photo processing practices
- Conduct final quality checks and carefully package all project deliverables, confirming that all project requirements have been met
- Work with the GPS Manager to troubleshoot and fill knowledge gaps in GIS
Must have successfully completed a post-secondary training program in remote sensing and/or GIS (including mapping, projections and datums) from a recognized post-secondary institution. Strong computer skills are also required. Additional Assets include:
- Designation as a Certified Photogrammetrist & previous experience in a Photogrammetry Position
- Field Experience, including but not limited to collecting Photo Identifiable control with Survey Grade GPS
- Experience with Multiple Camera Systems
- Experience with Trimble Inpho package
- Experience manipulating LiDAR as an adjunct to the Photogrammetric process
- Experience with EO Generation via Applanix or Grafnav
- Experience with Ultracam processing suite
- Experience with NOAA and/or USGS compliant Metadata
